I-140 RFE: Computer Science vs Computer Applications

We received an RFE for an I-140 petition based on a PERM approval.

The beneficiary had a Master Degree in Computer Applications from Osmania University. The Academic Evaluation stated that this was the equivalent to a Master Degree in Computer Science (since there is no such thing as a master’s degree in Computer Applications in the United States).

There is an unusually detailed note in the EDGE database of AACRAO, which indicates that the Indian MCA is equivalent to a master’s degree “in computer application, not computer science.”

In preparing the response to the RFE, we obtained a Professor Expert Opinion Letter in which the author compared the coursework from the Osmania University Degree to a typical US Master Degree in Computer Science.

USCIS issued the I-140 approval notice in 14 days.  Case #: LIN1304350117.
