Wednesday, October 11, 2000 - H-1B FEE INCREASE PASSES CONGRESSBy AILA - American Immigration Lawyers AssociationThe Senate last night passed a bill increasing the H-1B education and training fee to $1000. The House passed the same bill last Friday. Along with the fee increase, the measure broadens the categories of employers who are exempt from the fee to include elementary and secondary schools and "a nonprofit entity which engages in established curriculum-related clinical training of students registered at any" higher education institution. The bill will now go to the President, who is expected to sign this measure, along with the H-1B cap increase bill sent to him last week. |
